Democracy

Philosophy

Mythology

Olympics

Language

All languages are based on Greek words existing in thousands of modern languages. Like in my Big Fat Greek Wedding the dad could show any words relation to Greek words. Democracy Athens was one of the first places to use democracy as a common tool and way to run society is awesome because we use a lot of that in our modern day societies. Philosophy most modern philosophical currents are based either on Plato or Aristotle two very important Greek men. The olympics are an ancient Greek game started around 500 b.c. and have been played for centuries. These games were started in Olympia which is a beautiful place in Greece. Mythology is a great entertainment now a days there is movies made about it and different books and readings all studying this ancient religion

I would pick this. This is the Greek symbol for eternal life and love. The pattern can be found on many different things in Greek culture all throughout the common life style. Many people found it to be a symbol of good luck

GREEK BLOG #2

In Spartan life it was a lot rougher than in most cultures in general including that of the Greeks. In Sparta they were taught to be warriors and not much else. In Greece life was a lot more common a lot easier going that the life that was led in Sparta. The Greeks were dealing with culture and food and education where as the Spartans were simply military and different type of battle. The Greeks were a lot more accepting of weakness than the Spartans were often if babies were born with certain illnesses they were left to die off.

I would have much rather of wanted to live in the Greek society than in the society of the other religions The Greeks were much more in-depth in religion and culture. They're ability to bring regions together is something to be marveled at and they're culture is much more interesting in general. The food is better olives, Greek veggies and such. Plus blue is simply a much better color on me than whatever the Spartans wear red i believe. Oh and the women really had no sort of respect for them in Sparta vs. in Greece.

People first lived in Greece about 55,000 years ago.

In Knossos, the Minoans built a great civilization.

The Mycenaeans controlled mainland Greece from about 1600 B.C. to about 1200 B.C.

The inhabitants of Greece were intensely loyal to the concept of the polis

Temples and other buildings also stood on the acropolis.

Citizens met in the agora to discuss common issues.

Trade was the mainstay of Athen's economy.

Terracing means carving small, flat plots of land from hillsides.

This slave was called the boy's pedagogue and taught the boy manners.

Generally, most Athenians believed that money should be spent on buildings to benefit the whole community, and not on private homes.

Hoplites formed the center of the Athenian infantry. Helots were people that the Spartans conquered.

Solon also made changes in Athenian government; for example, he set up citizen juries to preside over some court cases.

These Greek city-states developed very different societies and systems of government.

Helots made up the third and lowest group in Spartan society.

This was so remarkable, that even though he only wrote one book, he is widely recognized as the greatest historian of ancient times.

The form of democracy Athens had under Cleisthenes was called direct democracy.

Athens developed a form of democracy when the idea of popular government, or the idea that people can and should rule themselves, began to take root.

We do not really know who the author or authors of the two epic poems attributed to Homer were; however, the period described is often called the Homeric Age.

The Olympics were probably held for the first time in 776 B.C. to honor the god Zeus.

This term came to describe a privileged social class

The Spartan's courage at this battle allowed the other city-states of Greece time to prepare their forces against the Persian invasion.

Sparta won this war after 27 years.

Pericles was a great general, orator, and statesman in Athens, and was responsible for building the Parthenon and the Acropolis.

This Athenian victory resulted in an uneasy peace that lasted for 10 years.

Athens was the leader of this alliance.

Today we use the world odyssey to describe any long, adventure-filled journey.

Most Influential Persian Leader (POST 10)

The most infuential leader of persian was Cryus he was  maybe the greatest ruler of all time. His style of government was a critical factor in him becoming the greatest ruler of his time. Cyrus  ruled with such power and grace. His empire extented from India to the Mediterranean Sea. He showed great respect and
admiration for the conquered people's religious and cultural beliefs. He was the first to allow people after conquering them to allow them to keep their beliefs. He was revolutionary for his time. He also freed more than 40,000 enslaved Jews and allowed them to return to their home. His message was that he was not a conqueror, but a liberator. No other person has ever built such a large and great empire and no one probably ever will.

Post 11 My Thesis

What materials, interior comforts, and architecture techniques did the Egyptians use? Which ones do we still use today? How did they vary from different social classes?
